All about Beginners

Whether you are a total beginner looking to start your running journey from scratch, or used to run and need some help to get started again, this is the place for you.

We believe that running is for everyone, regardless of your fitness level or background.

Our goal is to help you achieve your fitness and personal goals in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

Our Beginners groups are held 3 times a year in January, Spring and September with our fun, friendly staff and members there to support you every step of the way.

In fact, we are so sure you will love it, we offer a FREE taster session for everyone!

Our FREE Taster Sessions

Once you have registered for a taster session, we will send you an email with further details confirming your chosen clubs details.

All you have to do is be brave enough to come along and we will do the rest!

You will start in a safe, secure area with a group of people just like yourself, all nervous and worried they will not be able to get through the first session, let alone 10 weeks.

Don't worry if you're feeling a bit nervous or unsure – we've all been there! Literally....all of our team started as beginners.

During your first session, after a warm welcome we will guide you through a group warm up, the main run/walk session and a group cool down to leave you feeling exhilarated and wanting to come back for more.

Our Staff and members all offer support, encouragement and friendship, plus we have a few tricks of the trade to pass on!

What happens after my Taster Session?

We will ask you to sign up as a Club member with our simple sign up form. You can see all our membership options here

Then with your commitment and our coaching, session by session, week by week, YOU and your new clubmates will gain the confidence and fitness you need to conquer your first 5k in as little as 10 weeks, together as a team.

No embarrassment or judgement, just an hour of YOU time and an amazing feeling of accomplishment every time you run!

Before you know it, you will be making friends and becoming a regular runner with our club. We're all about staying safe and running smart, so you can focus on having a blast.

Once you've completed our 10-week course, get ready to graduate! It's a moment of triumph and high-fives all around. And often a well earned treat or two!

You'll then join our current members who by now will seem like old friends for our twice weekly group sessions, consolidating your 5K and should you wish and more!

Whatever your age, background, or fitness ability, ALL are welcome at Beginners2Runners.

Frequently asked questions

Questions? We got you.

Am I too unfit to run with B2R??

We always recommend you check with your GP before you start exercising, but don't worry, lots of our runners feel this way before they start their running journey with B2R. We've helped thousands of people, just like you, to get running. The Beginners Course starts with very short, gentle runs, inside a playground or park space. We will increase these slowly each week, and before you know it, you'll be running 5k - yes, YOU!

What should I expect from my first B2R session?

Try to arrive about 10 minutes before the start time, so you can meet the Club Manager, Members and fellow Beginners. We'll then take you to the 'Cone Zone' which is the Beginners' training area.

After a group warm up, we start week one with 1min runs and 1.30min walks, all at your own pace in a safe, secure environment. We will then cool down together. You'll train with the same format each session for several sessions while you build up your fitness and confidence.

What should I wear/bring?

You don't need to rush out and buy any special running shoes or clothes. We do recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and a pair of trainers suitable for exercise along with a top to wear before/after the session and a bottle of water. There is no need to bring any money as your first session is on us.

How long will the session last?

Each session lasts approximately around an hour

What happens after my taster session?

To continue with the course, you will need to sign up as a Club Member before your next session. Your Club Manager will explain our simple membership sign up process should you feel Beginners2Runners is the club for you. No hard sell, no pressure.

Will I get left behind?

At B2R we have a saying 'Start as a Team, Finish as a team'. Our Team Leaders are trained to keep the group running together at all times using various techniques. You will never run alone or get left behind. Everyone is rooting for each other to succeed, and we always start and finish each session together.

What goals are realistic as a beginner?

As a complete beginner, it's important to start your running journey on the right track. Before you lace up your running shoes, take a moment to assess your current fitness level. Listen to your body and understand your limitations. Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and it's perfectly fine to go at your own pace.

Setting achievable goals is key to staying motivated and making progress, having a clear goal in mind. And that's where we come in. Ensuring you start small and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your runs as you gain confidence and build endurance. We'll be here to advise and support you every step of the way.

How often should I attend?

If you are a Beginner attending our 10 week 0-5k course, it is based on 3 sessions a week. You should aim to attend club sessions twice a week, with 1 homework session to stay on track with the course. This will help you to maintain your fitness with the rest of your Beginners group as you progress session by session and week by week. It also means double the running fun a week with clubmates and friends!

If you can only attend one session a week or will miss a session every now and again, then speak to your Club Manager who will be able to help keep you on track to achieve that 5k goal with the rest of the group.

We realise that life sometimes gets in the way, so if you can only commit to one club session a week, or miss the odd one, that’s ok, we can set you some extra homework to keep up and you will always have access to our awesome team to keep you motivated!

What happens after the end of the 10 Weeks?

It's just the beginning of your running journey! Your B2R Community is here to continue to support and motivate you. First off, we'll hold a graduation ceremony for your group, to celebrate your achievements. Then, you'll join our current members, where we will run a variety of 5k routes to put your new found running skills to good use and continue to have fun, too!. There are also plenty of longer distance options should you be ready for the next step. Whatever you choose, we're right here for you.

How much does it cost?

Your first session is FREE! After that, we ask you to join us a club member with one of our following Memberships listed below.

At B2R we won’t lock you in to a long term contract. For our monthly memberships we ask for one full months’ notice should you need to leave. You will then unless specifically requested otherwise, be moved to our Pay As You Run membership. So you can continue to be a part of our community and come back anytime.

You can manage your membership by emailing us at: membership@beginners2runners.co.uk

I already run...do you have anything for me?

Yes! We have runners of all levels and abilities in our clubs and everyone is welcome. If you can already run a minimum of 5k, then you can come on down to any of our sessions to try us out for free. Our clubs will always have a 5k or fun alternative and depending on the session, many of our clubs will also have groups running up to 10k on a club night, or groups training together to go even further!
